Holiday homes in Hermanus and surrounding areas offer spectacular views, surrounded by nature’s splendour ensuring true rest and relaxation are practically guaranteed. Hermanus is a quaint, pretty ‘fishing village’ with a small harbour. While both marine and wine tourism have grown the town considerably over the past decade, Hermanus is far from losing its charm. An impressive span of seaside land includes towns like Vermont, Onrusrivier, Sandbaai and Voëlklip greatly increasing the offering for that unforgettable dream holiday.
Hermanus lies along Walker Bay on the south coast of the Western Cape. It is located about 115 km southeast of Cape Town and is connected to the Mother City by the R43 highway (or coastal R44 scenic route) and N2 motorway. Proximity to Cape Town and the Cape Overberg, magnificent coastal and mountain scenery and a host of marine and mountain outdoors activities in Hermanus and neighbouring Walker Bay makes Hermanus a superb destination for tourists and South African’s alike, not to mention wine aficionados and people who love whales (and who doesn’t?).
Nowhere else in the world are you able to breathe champagne air, sip on a cup of coffee or a glass of fine wine together with a fabulous meal whilst watching Southern Right Whales from the shore. Highly-recommended restaurants and gourmet pairings or tapas abound. It is famous for land based southern right whale watching during the southern winter and spring and has been hailed as the best in the world. The whales can be seen from the cliffs in the town centre as early as June and usually depart in early December. Hermanus is classified as having a warm-summer Mediterranean climate.
There are many wonderful beaches to be enjoyed along our beautiful coastline be it lazing in the sun or surfing for fun. Grotto Beach is the largest beach in Hermanus and has also been proclaimed a "Blue Flag" beach. Blue flag beaches meet international Environment, Safety and Management criteria. Other beaches with Blue Flag status include Hawston beach. Appealing to all tourists and locals alike, are The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, nestled between mountains and stretching 6.7 kilometres from Hermanus, taking you on a quiet meander among small vineyards.
